Members of this prominent Democratic family, including most of Mr. Kennedy’s siblings, had already signaled their support for Mr. Biden. Just as President Biden does today.”“Nearly every single grandchild of Joe and Rose Kennedy supports Joe Biden,” she said. “That’s right: The Kennedy family endorses Joe Biden for president.”Responding on social media, Mr. Kennedy avoided engaging with his family’s rejection of his candidacy. “I know you’re never supposed to reject a gift,” Mr. Kennedy joked as he held them. He then encouraged the roughly dozen people there to volunteer for the Biden campaign, arguing that their help could decide the election.

"They're trying to deprive him of his cash, they want to bankrupt him, they want to hurt him so badly," Eric Trump told Fox News in an interview. Trump's son Eric, a co-defendant in the fraud case, accused Attorney General Letitia James on Sunday of trying to bankrupt his father with the judgment. Eric's complaint came days after news that James's office had registered the massive fraud judgment with the Westchester County, New York, county clerk's office. Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump have run their father's company since he was elected president in 2016. The end of workplace loyalty

Do that, and you generate the kind of trust and loyalty that leads to high productivity and low turnover. A world in which the psychological contract is profoundly broken. In the three decades following World War II, as Rick Wartzman documents in his book " The End of Loyalty ," a booming economy made American companies rich. Today, disillusioned workers might assume that the norm of workplace loyalty was nothing but a capitalistic ruse, a way for companies to exploit their employees. But the new loyalty would recognize that employees have to uphold their end of the bargain.

That was the vision of Joan Kroc, billionaire philanthropist and heiress to the McDonald’s fortune of her husband, Ray. And today, 20 years later, 26 grand, state-of-the-art Kroc centers have opened in places as varied as Ashland, Ohio; Guayama, Puerto Rico; and Quincy, Illinois. Half was to be earmarked for the construction of recreation centers, with the other half deposited into endowments to support them. In the two decades since Kroc’s bequest, quantifying the precise impact on all of the communities served by the Kroc centers is difficult. She explained that Joan Kroc meant for the place to be accessible to all — that beauty was part of her plan.

The launch of the anti-Islamophobia effort has been expected for months. "Today's announcement is the latest step... to establish an interagency group to increase and better coordinate U.S. government efforts to counter Islamophobia, antisemitism, and related forms of bias and discrimination within the United States," White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement. Thirty-seven percent said they now identify as Democrats, 32% as Republicans and 31% as independents. There are many factors that can impact your mental health, from tough periods with finances to difficulties in your relationships; but where you live may also play a significant role. Some U.S. states seem to have better systems in place to promote positive mental health — and improve their residents' satisfaction — than others. Soliant Health, a company that offers healthcare jobs and staffing services nationwide, released a ranking of the 2023 Best States for Mental Health this September. The company used data from several reputable sources, like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The report based each state's ranking on eight categories:The frequency of "bad mental health days" reported by the populationMental health provider accessSuicide rates for people aged 15 to 24The frequency of violent crimeUnemployment ratesThe rate of "disconnected youth," which refers to those between ages 16 and 19 who aren't working or attending schoolAccess to areas where people can exercise such as parks and recreation centersAir pollution, which they used to "offset states with limited access to exercise opportunities due to rural landscapes and larger bodies of nature or protected land"DON'T MISS: I took Finland’s free masterclass on happiness: Here are 3 things I learnedThese ten states have the best conditions to "meet the mental health needs" of their residents.

And along the Gulf Coast, officials are now grappling with how to handle two potentially deadly disasters set to compound: a hurricane and extreme heat. Last week, the city issued an emergency declaration for extreme heat, underscoring rising concerns about widespread power outages ahead of peak hurricane season. Experts have also said that extreme heat is a silent killer and can be a major contributing factor in the overall hurricane death toll. “If Miami experienced extreme heat at the same time, portions of our community would have no relief for what could be days or weeks,” Williams told CNN. Officials there are still navigating how to properly prepare for the rapidly changing extreme weather to avoid mass casualties.

Part of the answer can be found at a large church in Long Island City, Queens, the Evangel Christian Center, which the city said accepted nearly 200 people last week who had been in the line outside the Roosevelt Hotel, which has become the main intake center for migrants. Several migrants from the West African nation of Mauritania said Wednesday that they had been moved there from their sidewalk sleeping spots. Mohammed Yerim, a Mauritanian in his mid-20s, said he came directly to the church, bypassing the line outside the hotel, after arriving from Florida. Two emergency lodgings in recreation centers in Brooklyn in McCarren Park and Sunset Park that opened over the weekend are housing about 80 people each. A small number of migrants leave the shelter system each week after finding homes elsewhere.

In big cities, dense with buildings and people, bustling with traffic, this question has beleaguered generations of parents. And it was one I asked myself when I moved back with my four children in 2017 to Philadelphia after two decades away. Toward the end of that first year, an old friend, also a Philadelphia native, reminded me of a valuable resource that might ease my children’s isolation — recreation centers. I immediately scoured the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation website for camps, anything that might help recreate their lost communal magic. I quickly found a teen adventures camp for my two eldest and an ecological camp and visual camp for my two youngest.

At their neighborhood pool in West Philadelphia, Markyda Anderson’s little boys could not wait to get back in. They had grown tired of playing in a nearby splash pad as lifeguards conducted a periodic check of chlorine levels. So once the break was over and swimmers were welcome again, they dashed back and — plunk, plunk — into the water they went. “They say it’s a lifeguard shortage,” Ms. Watson said Friday. “My question is, you’ve got all these other pools open, and you can’t swap the lifeguards around?”

New York CNN —Pickleball is coming to your local mall, replacing shuttered Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Navy, and Saks Off 5th stores. Malls need new tenants to fill vacant spaces and draw customers beyond their traditional department store anchors and clothing stores. Backers of the game and developers are desperate to find vacant spaces to build courts. The Meadows at Lake Saint Louis, an outdoor mall, plans to fill the space once occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond with a pickleball club. A pickleball facility recently opened in a former Burlington store space at Shore Mall in New Jersey, and a pickleball club took over an Old Navy space at a New Hampshire mall.
A storm that passed over Virginia Beach on Sunday evening brought one confirmed tornado and caused damage to multiple homes close to the coast, the authorities said. The tornado went through the Fort Story area in northeastern Virginia Beach just before 6 p.m., said Mike Montefusco, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va. The tornado’s exact path will be confirmed through a survey on Monday. Damage was reported to at least 12 homes as of early Sunday evening, said Tiffany Russell, a spokeswoman for the city of Virginia Beach. Residents also reported gas leaks.
Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old airman, was accused of leaking US intelligence documents on Discord. The US military uses Discord to recruit young people who are enthusiastic about video games. Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old junior-ranking US National Guard airman, was arrested on Thursday in connection to the leak of classified Pentagon documents. Some Republicans — most prominently Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene — have hailed Teixeira as a national hero, but members of Thug Shaker Central said otherwise. A spokesperson for Discord and the Defense Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
